The Problem List is the hub of a patient's chart. Although it can be found, viewed and edited in many ways, it helps to choose a favourite path for quick access.
The best tool for managing problems is the "Problem List" activity, available as a tab within all charts in all contexts. Problems are a property of patients and are prominent in charts opened outside an encounter as well as within any encounter types.
Consider personalizing the default tabs appearing when a chart is opened. The "Problem List" activity can be moved left-ward to be front-of-mind.
Jumping to this Problem List activity is easy:
- From a Patient List, double-click within a problem list column to open the associated patient chart to the problem list activity.
- From the patient Storyboard (left column of all open charts), find a row listing problem(s) in the bottom ⅓ of the column, hover to quickly view problems and click to open the Problem List for editing.
- From the default "Summary" (inpatient) or "SnapShot" (outpatient) activity appearing when a chart is opened, click on the title of the Problem List box.
- Enter "Prob" in Chart Search, then select "Jump to Problem List".
- Use a right-panel "Sidebar" index link that jumps to the Problem List.
Special views of the Problem List appear in patient movement navigators, with the display optimized for the kind of problem reconciliation needed during those workflows:
- The Admission navigator has a section that emphasizes selection of problems that will be addressed during an admission, as well as flagging a principal problem.
- The Discharge navigator has a section that emphasizes resolution of resolved problems, while moving other problems to the Medical History.
