Connect Care's "Reporting Workbench" tool is powerful. It helps users use, create, save and share reports listing patients, encounters or other events matching one or more criteria.

A great way to get started is to customize a very simple report that meets a common need: finding all patients at one or more facilities where one or more physicians serve as the attending provider. We've created a mini-tip showing exactly how this is done (within a few minutes).

The technique can be extended to produce more complex reports to answer clinical questions.

Setting a Default Dashboard

Radar Dashboards ("My Dashboards") allow reports, visualizations and other information digests to be gathered, summarized and visualized in support of learning, inquiry and decision-making. They become increasingly valuable to Connect Care users already comfortable with common workflows, opening the clinical information system for meaningful use.

As users grow comfortable with Dashboards, a collection of favourites will emerge. Users may want their very best dashboard to appear by default when My Dashboards is opened.

First, open the Dashboards activity, then select the small down-arrow just to the right of whatever dashboard first appears. 

A list of one's favourited dashboards will appear. It is possible to select-hold-drag-move-drop any of the favourites up or down in the list. The top-most will become the default shown when My Dashboards is first opened within a Hyperspace session.

Sharing RWB Reports with Connect Care Users

As clinicians increasingly appreciate the power of Connect Care in-system inquiry support tools, groups may consider how a sharing strategy can speed access to reports of particular interest to the group. Many could benefit from Reporting Workbench reports, and other analytic tools, but few have the focus needed customize or curate reports. 

A few inquiry-proficient clinicians can quickly share reports or templates with interested colleagues. There are two broad strategies: 

1. Push 
   Most inquiry tools (Reporting Workbench, Radar Dashboards, SlicerDicer, etc.) allow authors to save customized reports or visualizations. The saved objects can be shared with one or more explicitly selected Connect Care users.

2. Pull
   Some tools (including Reporting Workbench) allow users to browse non-private content from other users' report libraries.
   
• Tip - open My Reports then select the Library tab. Be sure that the right-column filter area is open and look to the bottom right of the Library work area to find a "View another user's library" tool.
  Use this to find the report library of the team member designated to organize and customize reports for the clinical group. The author does not need to anticipate and name specific individuals.

Finding Reports using the Analytics Catalog

We've posted elsewhere about how Reporting Workbench (RWB) reports can be found and organized within RWB itself by using the Library tab. 

Workbench reports and templates can also be discovered using the "Analytics Catalog" available via "My Dashboards" (Radar Dashboards). The skill is simple and best appreciated through demonstration.

Reporting Workbench (RWB) can be used to retrieve, customize, save and favourite a wide range of clinical and operational reports. These can build up and benefit from categorization and organization using folders. The skill is simple and best appreciated through demonstration.

Finding Reporting Workbench Reports

Reporting Workbench (RWB) is a powerful inquiry tool that can generate real-time clinical, operational, quality and research reports in a variety of formats, with support for drilling down to supporting data and taking action with clinical tools.

RWB is opened as an activity in Hyperspace by searching for "My Reports" in the Epic menu, the top Toolbar Button or via Chart Search (top right search box). All prescribers have access to RWB.

There are two ways to search for system, shared or personal RWB reports. The RWB Library tab has a keyword search tool complemented by filters that can be selected from the right column of the Library display.

Users may not appreciate that reports can also retrieved via an Analytics Catalog button revealed when a Dashboard title is selected in the My Dashboards activity. There are similar filtering capabilities.

Those who most commonly use Dashboards should learn the Analytics Catalog because it can retrieve a wider range of analytics tools, including dashboard components and SlicerDicer models. Those who specialize in RWB for clinical reporting do well to build proficiency in RWB Library search functions.
